AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so it directly answers questions, making it easy for AI assistants to surface as a direct answer.

The difference from GEO:

  • GEO is about substance: is this worth citing at all?
  • AEO is about format: is the answer easy to pull out and quote?

Example: a page that buries the definition of ROAS inside three paragraphs of history scores lower on AEO than a page that opens with “ROAS is…” in one clear sentence, even with the same information.

In practice, this means leading with the direct answer, using headers that match how people phrase questions, and skipping long wind-ups, the same structure this glossary already uses.
