Torkel co-founded Amanda AI in 2018 and has spent nearly two decades working on how ads actually run. Today Amanda AI makes millions of budget and campaign decisions every day across 5,000+ ad accounts on Google Ads, Meta and Microsoft Advertising (Bing), using mathematical models for the money and Claude for the language. So when Torkel explains the difference between AI that does math and AI that predicts what math would look like, he’s speaking from experience, not theory. He’s practical, skeptical of hype, and easy to follow for anyone who has used a spreadsheet.
“AI isn’t one thing. Most of the confusion in marketing comes from pretending it is.”
Torkel's topics
- Which AI for which job. Why an LLM reading your performance data isn’t really seeing numbers, and a quick gut-check for when you need real math underneath.
- Agents, MCP and “set it and forget it.” Anyone can connect an agent to an ad account in an afternoon. Torkel explains why that’s the problem, not the breakthrough.
- Who’s really in charge of your ad spend. What changes when AI stops suggesting and starts deciding, what goes wrong when it does, and why Google, Meta and Microsoft will never build the tool that moves budget out of their own auction.
Listeners leave with one question they can put to any “AI-powered” tool: is something doing real math in here, or predicting what math would probably look like?

“A weather forecaster can tell you there’s a 70% chance of rain on Saturday, and that’s genuinely useful. You do not want your banker telling you there’s a 70% chance of money in your account. For some questions, you want probabilities while for others, you need deterministic solutions.”
