ETAs let advertisers write a fixed, single version of an ad: two headlines and one description, each capped at a set character count. Google stopped allowing new ETAs to be created in June 2022.
Responsive Search Ads replaced them, automatically testing multiple headline and description combinations to find the best-performing version, rather than running a single fixed version indefinitely. Existing ETAs may still run in some accounts alongside Responsive Search Ads, but the format is now considered legacy.
